Newberry Springs Henning Motel 2016
Newberry Springs, a small desert town on the California stretch of the 66, just prior to the Bagdad Cafe or after, depending on your direction of travel you will find this sign and the remnants of what was once the famous Henning Motel.
The "town" of Bagdad disappeared in the early 1970s, but it inspired the setting of the movie and later Whoopi Goldberg starring TV series, Bagdad Cafe.
As the original cafe had been demolished, the film was shot here, the motel that was next to the Café, where the lead character Jasmine took her room, was the Henning
Sadly the accommodation blocks were reduced to rubble, only its striking yellow sign hangs on. Its so quiet, so few passing cars you can only imagine the thousands of excited kids heading to the California coast, this being on the last leg of the journey, how many lives passed through this now deserted stretch of road and looked up at this sign.
